This is one of the photos I’m most proud of. At least from a technical side.
I can’t remember where I got the idea from but for a while in 2013 I was interested in capturing photos with as much detail as possible – in fairness, it was probably to avoid doing the things I was supposed to be doing, like my degree – and so I started experimenting with panoramas. It began with maybe separate images stitched together and culminated with this shot of Trafalgar Square which is comprised of some 50 different frames.
To give you some idea of how this was taken, you can look for different clocks around the image and compare the times. There are also different ‘Easter eggs’ in the image – humorous (I think) purposeful mistakes, omissions and inclusions. Think of it as a more entertaining version of Where’s Wally.
I hope in the future to make more of these but three years ago when my laptop was very new, processing this image took about two days during which it was a very expensive brick. These days, my laptop can’t even open the folder containing the 2GB file so the next large panorama will probably have to wait until I can afford a new fancy computer. Until, then you and I will have to make do with this one.
