CT to KLA – Day 6. Mongeese, elk and birds.

What was that?

I’m not sure. Maybe a mongoose?

I thought a mongoose was a bird.

I used to think it was a bit like an elk. Now I’m really confused.

We’ve been making more consistent progress recently despite being sucked in by every sign that has “beer” on it (10 points to the first person who works out which pub I’m writing this from…). Over the last couple of days we’ve been riding next to the railway track which is nice and flat…unfortunately it’s also very sandy.

Sand is bad. It’s like ice, only worse. It’s even more fun at night, especially when you can’t see the sandy patches…or where the steep descents are. After deciding we’d had enough of trying to avoid sand pits we couldn’t see, we made camp.

Even more things (apart from me) are getting in the way of progress. This time it was Eskom (SA national grid equivalent) who decided to turn the power off right when we wanted to pay a lovely couple in Elands Bay, poor us had to stay another couple of hours. Such a shame being forced to chill out… (Yes I did blatantly steal that joke from Tegan, sorry.)
