Four days down, we’ve slept on two roads and someone else’s campsite. Seen ostriches, impala and a whale (apparently). We’ve even done a bit of cycling…
Interesting story, this is now the second time I’m writing this part of the blog. Thanks, MTN, thanks a lot.
We had some stunning views on our way from Cape Town to Noordhoek over a week ago – this was our first trip on the (unloaded) bikes and nearly killed us. Somehow it didn’t seem too bad on the way back despite having all our stuff strapped to the bikes. It did delay us slightly, not as much as me getting two instantaneous punctures during the day – the first frustratingly occurred at the top of a very big hill and I had to push the bike down before getting it fixed.

We’ve been trying to get up early and do some cycling before it gets too hot and we finally managed it. Hooray. Unfortunately getting up early and cycling isn’t the only thing getting in the way of us cycling. One of the other things is me being a complete idiot.
I decided it would be a good idea to get a shot of us cycling along this beach (you can see table mountain in the background which makes it extra arty). It was, no doubt, an excellent idea until I managed to get a bungee strap tied very tightly around an important part of the bike which, very importantly, is supposed to move. Three hours later it was fixed. My bad.

We’ve also been trying to ween ourselves of the luxuries of Cape Town. Sleeping on a few roads has helped somewhat. We’re also having to get used to being broke but we’re not very good at it.
Do we really need ice cream?
Yes, yes we absolutely do.
What about this bottle of wine?
Of course we do. We’re not savages…
You can tell it’s going well.
At this point I should give a massive shout out to Woodstock Cycleworks who were the guys who sorted me out with a bike and who were generally phenomenally knowledgeable and helpful. They also make amazing coffee – thanks guys.
Ironically a lot has happened since I started writing this due to the state of mobile Internet here, oh well. You can look forward to that next time.
